Tribute to the Great Masters
A Moment of History Written in Jiu Jitsu Teresopolis
Last weekend in Teresopolis was a celebration of Jiu Jitsu life style. I had a opportunity to be on the mat with my 2 first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Masters,
Grand Master Geny Rebello and Master Elias Martins
A couple months ago I spoke with Suyan Queiroz and Leandro Azara to organize a seminar with a goal to do a tribute for these 2 great Masters that made the Teresopolis Jiu Jitsu recognized for great competitor and coaches around the world.
With more than 30 people from 5 different cities on the mat the seminar was a success. It was a 2 hour session with a lot of movements and techniques to improve a guard pass and knee on the stomach attacks.
But the more important part of the seminar was a way to say thanks, give back our gratitude and honor these 2 great Masters who have produced hundreds of great competitors, coaches. More importantly they formed men with dignity, integrity and now they are great fathers, professionals like doctor, lawyers, engineers, etc.
I started my career in 1974 training at Serrana Academy under those Masters. They always taught us amazing techniques but always gave us direction to become great people in the future. Each day of Jiu Jitsu lessons was a daily life lesson.
One day on the mat can teach you some thing that you will need in your life some day. You learn to fall and get back up, win and lose, to set goals and follow your dreams, BUT the most important lesson is to make friends throughout your life.
I had opportunity to share movements with my masters and see they view from them angle and also learn from them.
The night before the seminar, I went to Master Elias Martins house to remind him about the seminar, and to my surprise I saw him teaching a class with more than 20 teens. That just motivated me even more to keep doing my job and reinforcing my dreams.
THANKS TO MY MASTERS, STUDENTS, FAMILY AND FRIENDS THAT TEACH ME EVERYDAY THE GREAT THINGS BJJ BRINGS TO MY LIFE AND OTHERS.
