June 25th Seminar at Blue Springs Jiu Jitsu
Renato Tavares BJJ Seminar at Blue Springs Jit Jitus on June 25th
On Saturday June 25th, 2011 Renato Tavares came to Blue Springs Jiu-Jitsu to share some of his expertise in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The seminar was extraordinary and was attended by his association schools from all over the Midwest. While the seminar was in Blue Springs Missouri, there were students also attending from Kansas, Oklahoma, Illinois, and Texas.
We began by working on footwork drills to develop speed, coordination and technique to pass the guard. Then we worked on some techniques to use to pass both the closed and open guards. We worked on some great submissions to finish after passing the guard. Some of my favorites were the leg and ankle lock submissions from the 50/50 guard.
After the technical part of the seminar, we were able to roll for a while. This was especially beneficial because we were all able to roll with different people than we normally roll with. It was a friendly environment where we could work our techniques with different people within the Renato Tavares Association family without the pressure of a tournament.
To make the event even more spectacular, Mike Budnik was promoted to the rank of Black Belt by Renato during the seminar. Mike has worked very hard and has represented the Renato Tavares association extremely well. Great Job Mike!
Once Mike received his black belt promotion, there were 4 Renato Tavares black belts in attendance – Piet Wilhelm, Jason Bircher, Renato Tavares, and Mike Budnik.
Congratulations to Aaron Derrow, who was also promoted to the rank of purple belt by Renato Tavares.
