First Martial Arts Camp for 2015 Held at American Top Team Vero Beach
RTBJJA First Camp of the Year
This past weekend was the first Florida / Georgia Martial Arts Camp for 2015. This was held at American Top Team Vero Beach and hosted by 5th Degree Carlson Gracie Sr. Black Belt Master Renato Tavares.
The seminar commenced on Friday night with the focus being guard passing for BJJ. 5 black Belts and approximately 35 students were in attendance. The students had the opportunity to learn both closed and open guard passing techniques from Master Renato Tavares and Professors Mike Budnick and Jason Keaton . After the instructional portion was complete, students were given the chance to train with the black belts.
Saturday morning commenced with coaches Joel Garcia and Paulie Gloves holding a special coaches seminar where they worked with the visiting coaches to hone stand up techniques.
After that, Sensei Shinjiro Sasaki along with his team provided a judo seminar for the nearly 60 attendees. This portion focused on throws and the transition immediately to attack. Sasaki has been working to modify the throws to become more bjj specific.
After judo, there was a short break which was followed by sweeps for BJJ. Techniques were provided by Master Renato Tavares and Professors Mike Budnik, Tommy Wales, and Jason Keaton. Once again, training with the black belts followed the instructional portion of the seminar.
This was the first multi state camp for the year with another to follow in June. The end of 2014 and the beginning of 2015 has already seen growth in the Renato Tavares Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association. (RTBJJA). The team is becoming stronger and with the addition of this new team training 2015 looks to be the strongest year yet for RTBJJA ….
